I truly love teaching at Steuart Weller. No matter who you encounter in the school, you will see that it is one of the most welcoming schools you will enter. I am looking forward to the new school year, and I hope you are as refreshed and ready to go as I am. Since we'll be spending a lot of time together this year, you probably want to know a little bit more about me.
I grew up in a military family (my father was in the Marine Corps for 30 years), so I moved around quite a bit. I mostly lived in North Carolina, Illinois, California, and Virginia. One year when I was in the fourth grade, I moved four different times and went to three different schools! I definitely know what it is like to be the new kid in the school. It's scary at first, but you will find yourself feeling at home in no time. The students at Weller really know how to work together, and I see students form close friendships very easily.
I earned my undergraduate degree from East Carolina University. After my younger daughter was born, I went back to school to get my master's degree in education from George Mason University This is my 21st year teaching (I know...that's a long time, but it doesn't feel like it!). I began teaching in Fairfax County where I taught sixth grade and then fourth grade. I came to Loudoun County in 2001, and have taught fifth grade since then. I like that I know the grade you came from and the grade you are going to. It is always rewarding to see the changes my students go through from the beginning of the year to the end, when they are ready to go off to middle school. I hope you are ready for a terrific year!!
You will hear me talk about my two daughters who are both grown. One of them is a second grade teacher in Fairfax County, and the other one is completing graduate work at the University of Missouri. Since they are grown, my husband and I get to pamper our 85-pound shepherd named Stella. She is a huge Redskin fan just like me. We also have a cat named Simon who loves to torment Stella. I love spending my free time reading, traveling, and working in my flower garden. Sometimes I also go kayaking with my husband! This year I started taking classes at George Mason University, so I am also a student, just like you. Together we will make this the best year yet!
